Wisdom Tooth Removal in Canary Wharf
There may sometimes not be enough room in your mouth for your wisdom teeth. As they begin to come through, they can push against existing teeth or erupt at an angle — causing pain, swelling, or infection.
If you're experiencing discomfort, the best thing to do is visit us promptly. We'll take an X-ray of your mouth to assess how your wisdom teeth are coming through and make a clear judgement on whether removal is needed and how involved the procedure will be. We'll walk you through all your options before proceeding.

Tooth Extraction FAQs

Your dentist will administer a local anaesthetic to numb the area completely. General anaesthetic is only used in rare cases where the extraction is highly complex or the patient is severely anxious. There are two types of extraction: simple and surgical. A simple extraction involves loosening and removing the tooth with forceps — it's usually quick with a short recovery time. A surgical extraction is needed when the tooth has broken at the gum line or hasn't fully erupted. Here, a small incision is made in the gum and, if necessary, a small amount of bone around the tooth may be removed to allow access.
If you had a local anaesthetic you'll be able to go home shortly after the procedure. If sedation was used, you'll need to wait briefly to recover and will require someone to drive you home — you should not drive or operate machinery for the remainder of the day. Some discomfort afterwards is normal. We can prescribe appropriate pain relief, though over-the-counter options such as ibuprofen or paracetamol often work well. We'll provide you with full written aftercare instructions covering what to eat, how to clean the area, and what to watch out for during healing.
